Sharp Systems of America, Huntington Beach, CA,
has introduced the Actius RD3D notebook computer that incorporates
TFT 3D LCD technology that enables users to view 3D images using
the naked eye. Using a parallax barrier, light from the LCD is
divided so that different patterns reach the viewer's right and
left eyes. The direction in which light leaves the display is controlled
so that each eye sees different images. When centered in front
of the display, each eye receives the correct visual information
for the brain to process. This makes the image appear to be 3D
with no special glasses. The display panel can be switched between
2D and 3D display modes with the touch of a button. The autostereo
3D notebook has a 2.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor and the NVIDIA
GeForce 4 440 Go graphic processing unit. Applications range from
engineering/CAD to remote sensing, life sciences, medical imaging,
oil and gas, and other design applications.
