ANSYS and SGI Join Forces for Linux Initiative

SOUTHPOINTE, PA, June 7 -- ANSYS, Inc. and SGI have formed a strategic alliance to supply ANSYS engineering software on the SGI Linux operating system using SGI's Intel IA-64-based server products.

According to ANSYS, Inc., the consortium of ANSYS, SGI, Linux, and Intel IA-64 will provide users of engineering simulation software with the ability to run large models on high-performance workstations.

"The Linux operating system, supported and supplied by SGI, represents the opportunity to deploy computational servers with a competitive price-performance ratio," said Paul Bemis, vice president of ANSYS, Inc. "These systems will provide customers flexibility for implementation as Web or LAN servers, running the ANSYS engineering software. Customers can also gain the inherent cost advantage of Linux-based computational clusters to to address the needs of the CAE market."
