ANSYS, Inc. and Microcosm Technologies SOUTHPOINTE, PA, Mar. 27 -- ANSYS, Inc., a provider of design analysis software, and Microcosm Technologies, Inc., a developer of MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) software, have announced a partnership to deliver joint solutions for MEMS design. An initial objective of the partnership will be an integration between Microcosm's MEMS Designer product and ANSYS/MultiphysicsTM. According to the two companies, this collaboration will allow users to perform device layout, construct 3D models in MEMS Designer, and then perform simulations with ANSYS/Multiphysics; tight integration will assures the seamless passing of geometric and material information. "This partnership will bring MEMS device analysis to a new level of ease-of-use and functionality," said Paul Lethbridge, electronics industry specialist at ANSYS, Inc. "Prior to this, only the MEMS device geometry was associative between the simulation tools. This collaboration brings together 'best in class' software providers with the goal of providing productive simulation tools to the cutting-edge marketplace of MEMS designers and foundries." ANSYS/Multiphysics is a fully featured, general-purpose finite element-based simulation tool designed to combine two or more interrelated physical phenomena in a common environment to accurately predict real-world behavior. ANSYS/Multiphysics 5.6, the latest release, includes enhanced capabilities for electrostatic and electromagnetic circuit simulation along with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) applications critical to MEMS development. Microcosm's MEMS Designer is a front-end design tool for electro-mechanical, fluidic, optical, and radio-frequency applications. It combines the company's CatapultTM layout editor with Microcosm's software for creating and automatically meshing solid models of MEMS devices. According to Microcosm, MEMS Designer provides flexibility by producing models that are directly compatible with the company's extended software solutions including -- under this new partnership -- ANSYS simulation tools.
