SGI Introduces Entry-Level Storage Solution MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, May 8 -- SGI has announced the availability of the SGITM Total Performance 9100 (TP9100) RAID storage array. This full-fiber solution is designed to offer the performance and features typically available with mid-range storage products, at an entry-level price. "Data is one of the most important business assets of many SGI customers," said Mick Dungworth, vice president of storage marketing at SGI. "Providing a comprehensive suite of scalable, available, and reliable storage solutions is among SGI's highest priorities. The TP9100 further extends our storage capability by delivering both very compelling price/performance and RAID reliability at an affordable price." The TP9100 complements SGI's existing line of storage products that range from internal PCI-based RAID to multiple-terabyte, enterprise-class storage solutions. According to the company, all SGITM storage products are designed to address the requirements of scientific, technical, analytical, and creative users in government, defense, manufacturing, science, broadband communications, and entertainment. SGI added that the TP9100 allows users to easily scale both performance and capacity. The entry-level model can be configured with one to two RAID controllers and up to 32 9GB drives. The modular base unit is designed to provide maximum flexibility in form and function in a small footprint (12 disks in 4U rack space). In addition, says the company, SGI TP9100 supports RAID levels 0, 1, 1+0, 3, and 5 to ensure superior data accessibility, reliability, and security. The SGI TP9100 provides comprehensive storage management via a JavaTM platform-based Web interface. It also provides support for the IRIX and Microsoft Windows NT operating systems and future support for the Linux and Windows 2000 systems. SGI TP9100 is available immediately. Equipped with one RAID controller and 12 9GB disks, it starts at under $25,000 (U.S. list).
