In 1958, Congress mandated that NASA technology and know-how be made accessible to companies and entrepreneurs searching to develop tangible products and services. These products resulting from NASA technology are then made available in the commercial marketplace. Assistance to companies seeking to utilize NASA technology for commercial purposes is provided through the NASA Commercial Technology Network (NCTN), a nationwide group of technology transfer organizations. The variety of commercial technology activities conducted by the NCTN, including licensing agreements, research, engineering assistance, and funding have forged strong and successful partnerships between NASA and business over the years. Each of these unique partnerships serves as an icon to NASA's commitment to bring space technology down to Earth.
