Servomotor Brakes
Nexen (Vadnais Heights, MN) has introduced the Eclipse line of servomotor brakes designed to mount to servomotors up to 20 horsepower. The spring-engaged brakes are equipped with a splithub, zero-backlash clamp collar for attachment to MCTthe servomotor shaft.

The flange-mounted brakes can be used with standard servomotors for integrated brake motor modular functionality. They come in a variety of input and output flange/shaft combinations.

The brakes are designed for intermittent dynamic stopping, and holding and E-stop applications.

Features include high torque from 2 to 125 Nm to sufficiently stall the servomotor, zero backlash, low inertia, and NEMA 23, 34, and 42 frame sizes. Seven size models are available with split-hub/shaft-collar shaft mounting, and square flanges range in size from 57 to 265 mm (2.25 to 10.4").

Precision Tensioning Brakef
Placid Industries’ Hystereis brakes features the company’s patented Cog-Buster to automatically smooth braking torque. Frictionless torque is produced by internal magnetic fields rather than contact between parts. Slip torque is smooth, accurate, and reliable, with long term stability and wide speed range. Even high slip RPM causes no wear.

Torque is smooth even near zero RPM. Units from 0 to 11 oz.-in. to 0 to 250 oz.-in. rated torque, with heat dissipation to 110 watts are available from stock. The hysteresis brake is used in the winding of stents and wire-reinforced medical tubing. Precise wire tension is easily maintained, even on open loop systems. Torque feedback with an expensive torque transducer in unnecessary.

Clutch/brake Modulef
Warner Electric’s Gen 2 electromagnetic clutch/brake modules feature several enhancements in performance and appearance, compared to the original C-Face design. Internal component mounting and an external housing fin design increase heat dissipation, optimizing stop/start frequencies — particularly in enclosed configurations. Better input-to-output axis alignment reduces vibration, noise, and wear.

The modules have custom mounting bolts that allow the conduit box to be located directly on top of the unit for consistent orientation. Optional cover kits readily convert vented units into fully enclosed modules that keep out contaminants.

Clutch/Brake Unit
Warner Electric (South Beloit, IL) has introduced the Smooth-Start UniModule, an electromagnetic clutch/brake unit for conveyor lines or wherever starting and stopping at full torque can cause conveyed objects to slide, tip, or be damaged. The unit enables operators to customize clutch/brake torque to specific starting and stopping requirements. The module is NEMA C-face compatible. For
